The young woman was wearing the SAVE Special Operations Division’s black combat uniform, with a standard short sword hanging at her waist. The hem of her jacket swayed gently with her movements.
Her hair was tied up in a neat high ponytail, and her elegant, upturned eyebrows and eyes looked aggressive, like the gleam of a blade drawn from its sheath.
After scanning Team 7’s office, the smile on the young woman’s face deepened as she stared at Lin Han.
“This is your Team 7?”
“Yeah,” Lin Han shrugged, seemingly oblivious to the playful mockery in her eyes. “Intelligence Processing Division, Team 7, responsible for all sorts of things no one else wants to deal with.”
“Does that include dealing with these problem children?”
As her words fell, the scene momentarily lost all sound. Even personnel from other departments passing by sensed that the atmosphere was off and fell silent.
Zhou Ran stood to the side, scratching his head, while Xu Weian had somehow already retreated to a corner.
Shen Qingshu continued to stare at her computer screen without even lifting her head, as if everything happening outside had nothing to do with her. Tang Xiaoman tried her best to bury herself in her desk, her hands trembling.
“I think it’s more about cleaning up the messes left behind by your Special Operations Division,” Lin Han replied calmly.
“You’re still as sharp-tongued as ever.”
“Thanks, but if you don’t know how to speak, you don’t have to.”
The girl raised an eyebrow.
Lin Han looked at her.
The two locked eyes for two seconds.
Just as Tang Xiaoman was shivering, terrified that her Team Leader would start a fight with the other party, a voice broke the deadlock like a heavenly sound—
“Gu Xinglan. Let’s go, stop wasting time.”
Among the group wearing combat uniforms, the one leading them suddenly spoke faintly.
“Coming!”
Gu Xinglan turned around and quickly caught up with the team.
Then, as she reached the back of the line, she added:
“Lin Han, if you stay in a mud pit too long, you’ll turn into trash yourself. Well, it’s not like I had any expectations for a normal person like you anyway.”
After saying that, she walked away without looking back.
“…”
It wasn’t until the group in uniforms disappeared from sight that some noise gradually return to the silent corridor.
“…The pressure is so intense.”
“Are these the people from the Operations Division?”
“I heard that Gu Xinglan is already a LV2 Ability User. She has a bright future ahead of her…”
“Does that Lin Han from Team 7 have some kind of conflict with Gu Xinglan?”
“Shh…”
Some of the onlookers who had been watching the drama earlier started discussing in low voices. But there were also people who glanced at Team 7’s side, then quickly pulled their excited companions away from the scene.
As the ace unit of the W City SAVE Organization, Gu Xinglan’s Special Operations Division was naturally not to be trifled with.
And it was also well-known that Team 7 of the Intelligence Processing Division was full of weirdos and problem children.
God knows what would happen if you offended Team 7…
It was better to stay far away.
“Let’s go. If we don’t head to the cafeteria now, all the good food will be gone.”
Seeing that the crowd of onlookers was also dispersing, Lin Han rubbed his temples and left with Zhou Ran.
Zhou Ran scratched his cheek and asked, “Team Leader, did we cause trouble for you?”
Lin Han shook his head.
“It has nothing to do with you. People from the Special Operations Division are just like that. There’s a strict hierarchy in SAVE.”
It was common knowledge that in SAVE, the Special Operations Division, which engaged in direct combat with Calamity, was always at the top of the pecking order. Meanwhile, the Intelligence Processing Division, which handled intelligence work, was at the very bottom where even a dog could kick them around.
After all, the Special Operations Division only accepted those with extraordinary powers…
Thinking of this, a scene inexplicably surfaced in Lin Han’s mind.
It was a scene of “himself” standing high above, as if everything was in the palm of his hand, effortlessly wiping out a Calamity using Telekinesis…
It was just a game, after all.
Shaking off the distracting thoughts, Lin Han added.
“Besides, even if I wasn’t in Team 7, she’d still give me trouble if she ran into me.”
“Why?” Zhou Ran asked in confusion. “Do you have some kind of conflict with her, Team Leader?”
“I don’t know. We knew each other before, and she wasn’t like this back then. But after joining SAVE, she’s been picking on me for no reason.”
Lin Han was also a bit baffled, but he soon casually threw his hands up and joked:
“Maybe I’m her unattainable crush, and her love just turned into hate.”
“Hahaha, Team Leader, you actually have quite a sense of humor…”
The two quickly put this little episode behind them and headed toward the cafeteria.
Meanwhile, Gu Xinglan, who was silently following at the back of the team, suddenly let out a violent sneeze.
Gu Xinglan glared fiercely behind her, but saw nothing…
It was already 7:46 PM when Lin Han returned home.
The city’s night pressed down from outside the window, the neon lights and vehicle taillights on the street blending together like a crumpled, colorful ribbon.
He opened the door to a completely quiet house.
The lit screen of the phone in Lin Han’s hand still displayed the chat log with Jiang Wanfeng from an hour ago—
“There’s tutoring at school today, so I’ll be back late.”
“Do you want me to cook?”
“No need, I already had dinner.”
Lin Han turned on the lights, the pale glare piercing through the entire house.
Throwing himself onto the sofa, Lin Han spaced out for a moment before suddenly feeling that he was being a bit silly.
He never expected that simply coming home and not hearing the chattering voice of his stepsister would feel so unfamiliar.
It couldn’t be because he was actually a siscon, right?
Impossible, absolutely impossible…
It was definitely just because he was a little tired. After all, he had worked overtime for half the day again.
The report for the West Business District Mutant incident still wasn’t finished. There were countless clues at the scene, but very few were actually useful.
Coupled with the frequent Mutant Calamities this month, it was entirely foreseeable that the days ahead would not be easy.
It might be better to entertain himself and change his mood.
Ten minutes later, Lin Han lay inside the Simulation Capsule.
Although he didn’t really want to admit it, Lin Han was indeed getting a bit hooked on this game.
Accompanied by a faint mechanical closing sound, the reality before his eyes gradually darkened.
A few seconds later, the familiar light screen unfolded in the darkness.
An avatar of Monica appeared below the light screen; it seemed this area was used to display the current Contractors.
They really made it feel pretty ceremonial.
Lin Han stretched a bit, re-familiarizing himself with this petite yet powerful body in the game.
“Speaking of which, I logged off too hastily this morning. I don’t think I checked the rewards for the beginner’s tutorial yet.”
So, Lin Han opened his panel again—
However, after searching for a long time, Lin Han still couldn’t find what the so-called “Transformation Points” were used for.
Was this part of the system not yet unlocked? He decided to drop it for now.
The attribute points he currently possessed were enough to increase any attribute value, except for charm, by two points.
As Lin Han stared at the attribute section, a few lines of text emerged.
Looking at the text, Lin Han fell into deep thought.
