Chapter 10

Victory

Infuriated, he gathered his strength again and charged toward Sang Ning, his fists swinging with a powerful, whistling wind.

Sang Ning unhurriedly reached out to block. Using a clever redirection of force, she quickly shifted the direction of Wang Liang’s punch, easily neutralizing the heavy blow. Instead, it was Wang Liang who nearly lost his balance as his center of gravity shifted.

Sang Ning did not linger in the fight; after neutralizing the punch, she quickly backed away again, refusing to give Wang Liang any opening.

She knew very well that her current body was incredibly weak. If it came down to a true contest of strength, she would have lost long ago. The only reason she could neutralize his attacks so easily was entirely due to her experience struggling through the apocalypse. To defeat Wang Liang, she had to wait for him to reveal a flaw himself.

The corners of Sang Ning’s lips curled slightly. It shouldn’t be much longer. People like Wang Liang were obsessed with their reputation; having been evaded twice in a row by her, he was likely already so enraged that he was losing his mind. And the facts were exactly as Sang Ning expected.

Having been dodged twice by Sang Ning, the bottom-ranked student in the class, Wang Liang’s face turned bright red as if he had suffered a massive humiliation.

“Sang Ning, if you’ve got the guts, stop dodging!” With that, Wang Liang swung his right fist and charged at Sang Ning once more.

Wang Liang had wised up this time. As his right fist swung toward Sang Ning’s face, he suddenly changed direction. At the same time, he bent his left knee and thrust it toward Sang Ning’s chest with all his might.

Sang Ning was well-prepared. She had spent every day in the apocalypse living on a razor’s edge; some instincts had long since been etched into her very bones.

Sang Ning turned nimbly, her right leg gathering strength as she kicked Wang Liang directly in the upper thigh. She suddenly leaped up, her elbows striking his face and neck, as she used her weight and gravity to pin him heavily to the ground.

Sang Ning’s hands didn’t stay idle. Although she lacked raw strength, she excelled in the sheer speed of her punches. Like a barrage of raindrops, her fists fell one after another onto Wang Liang’s face and neck. Simultaneously, she used her body weight to keep him pinned, leaving him with no choice but to shield his head as he took the beating.

Aside from Wang Liang’s occasional screams of pain, no other sound could be heard in the training room.

Even Li Weiming was stunned. Sang Ning’s grades in Combat Ability were almost always failing marks. How had she suddenly become so skilled today, able to pin down and pummel the top-ranked student in the class, Wang Liang?

However, Li Weiming quickly called it to a halt. “Alright, that’s enough. Sang Ning wins this round.”

Only after hearing Li Weiming declare her the winner did Sang Ning get off of Wang Liang. She had left several bruises on his face, and the corner of his mouth was bleeding.

The moment he was released, he scrambled up from the ground and swung another punch at Sang Ning. Sensing something was wrong, Sang Ning side-stepped to dodge it while simultaneously kicking Wang Liang in the back. Wang Liang went flying and landed flat on his face in the dirt, causing the rest of the class to burst into laughter.

Li Weiming stared at him with an unfriendly expression. “I already said the match was over, yet you deliberately ignored me. Wang Liang, your grade for this subject is voided.”

Wang Liang climbed back up and glared at Sang Ning with venomous eyes. “Teacher, I don’t accept this! That was an accident just now. How could she possibly beat me?”

“There are no accidents. If that had been an Interstellar Beast just now, you would be dead. Don’t make excuses for yourself.” After speaking, Li Weiming wrote “Fail” on Wang Liang’s grade sheet.

Sang Ning gave Wang Liang a nonchalant glance before returning to the crowd.

She was still reflecting on the matter with Wang Liang. She had made him lose face, and since her psychic power level was two levels lower than his, she needed to be extra cautious at school lately. It would be best if she didn’t leave the campus; after all, once outside the school gates, the military academy had no jurisdiction over the students.

Soon, round after round of matches began. No one challenged Sang Ning again after that; instead, Li Weiming randomly assigned her opponents.

This time, Sang Ning’s opponent was a male Beta. He looked thin and frail, but Sang Ning’s own body was also weak. Consequently, the two spent a long time testing each other until the male Beta finally lost his patience and struck first.

The male Beta threw a punch toward Sang Ning’s face, but the force behind it was far inferior to Wang Liang’s. Sang Ning could tell at a glance that his fundamentals were poor; his fist wobbled as he swung, his stance was clearly unstable, and his upper body strength was negligible.

Sang Ning didn’t rely on finesse this time; she met him with a direct punch. As her right fist struck toward the male Beta’s face, he parried it with both arms. Seizing the opening, she delivered a kick. With over a decade of experience from the apocalypse, Sang Ning’s kick was both precise and ruthless. Furthermore, she targeted his joint. The male Beta was sent flying by her kick and couldn’t get back up for a long while.

Sang Ning had actually held back. Her years of experience in the post-apocalyptic world hadn’t just made her a seasoned fighter; more importantly, she knew the human body inside and out. She knew exactly where to strike to cause the most pain, and even more so, how to kill an opponent in a single blow. Of course, in a spar between military academy students, she wasn’t about to use lethal force.

Sure enough, after clutching his stomach and rolling on the ground a few times, the male Beta began to recover.

Having won two rounds in a row, Sang Ning drew the attention of the other students in the training room. After all, if she had only beaten Wang Liang, it could be dismissed as luck, but winning two rounds in a row was clearly more than just that.

Jiang Xiaoting and her other roommates had also finished their matches. With a mix of wins and losses among them, they all flocked toward Sang Ning.

“Nice one! Not bad at all,” Jiang Xiaoting said, raising an eyebrow and giving Sang Ning a thumbs-up. “Have you been practicing in secret lately? How did you suddenly get so good?”

“Exactly! Watching you beat Wang Liang was like slicing through vegetables. You’ve got to teach us when you have the chance,” Zhang Yan added, leaning in.

Sang Ning smiled at them. “No problem. You’ll gain experience the more you spar.”

Her skills were forged in the apocalypse. The apocalypse was nothing like an exam; a single mistake meant death.

The morning passed quickly, and after a comprehensive evaluation, the rankings for the Combat Ability Exam were released. Sang Ning ranked fifth in the class with a record of two consecutive wins. The reason she didn’t make the top three was that Li Weiming felt she relied mostly on clever techniques and that her raw strength wasn’t up to par yet, leading to many points being deducted.

Sang Ning was well aware of this herself. This original body wasn’t anything special, but after several days of training, it was improving day by day.

At noon, Sang Ning went to the school cafeteria with her roommates to eat. In this technologically advanced world, drinking nutrient solutions alone was enough to stay full, but to satisfy one’s appetite, eating real food was still the best option.

When Sang Ning and her group entered, the cafeteria was already quite crowded. The Military Academy’s cafeteria was huge; the meals on the first floor were free, while the second floor offered paid stir-fry dishes. As for the third floor, it was even more expensive, even selling the meat of interstellar animals.

Sang Ning and the others naturally found empty seats on the first floor to sit down before heading off with their trays to get food.

Just as Sang Ning was about to take her tray to get some braised chicken legs, a commotion broke out at the canteen entrance. Before long, the crowd spontaneously parted to make a path as Lou Weiyu and several companions entered.

They walked straight toward the elevator leading upstairs. Sang Ning only gave them a brief glance before turning back to line up for her chicken legs. Only those wealthy elites would ignore the free meals and head upstairs for specially prepared dishes.

Right as Sang Ning turned away, Lou Weiyu’s gaze shifted toward her. Her lips pursed slightly as her SSS-Class psychic power easily covered the entire canteen; she was certain that Sang Ning had indeed just been looking at her.

Thinking this, the corners of Lou Weiyu’s lips curled up slightly. That morning, Sang Ning had claimed they should be strangers, yet it was only noon and Sang Ning had already forgotten those words. She was still paying attention to her, wasn’t she? She knew it, Alphas just loved being dishonest about their feelings.

As Lou Weiyu thought this, her mood brightened. She didn’t quite understand why her mood had suddenly improved, especially since her relationship with Sang Ning wasn’t even that close.

Lou Weiyu didn’t think much more of it, simply assuming she had gotten the better end of the deal. Feeling a bit guilty, she followed her companions into the elevator.

Sang Ning had no idea that Lou Weiyu had imagined so much. The reason she had looked over just now was purely out of curiosity; once she saw it was Lou Weiyu, she quickly looked away.

In the apocalypse, aside from fighting zombies and enemies from other bases, Sang Ning’s biggest hobby was holding her tablet and reading the novels stored on it. Therefore, she knew all too well the principle of staying far away from the male and female leads.

While her mind wandered, she had already reached the front of the line. Sang Ning caught the scent of drumsticks, and her eyes instantly lit up. These meals might be nothing special to these military academy students, but to Sang Ning, they were an absolute delicacy. After all, in the apocalypse, you had to fight just to get a locust cake.

Since the food was free, each person was limited to one chicken drumstick and one egg for lunch. As for the rest—the fried rice, fried noodles, braised noodles, and stir-fried dishes—they could go back for seconds once they finished.

Sang Ning returned carrying a tray piled high with food. Every time she had passed a stall, she felt like she couldn’t move; she wanted to taste every single type of food.

Jiang Xiaoting gave her a nudge. “What are you doing? Our table is over there. Go put your tray down first before you go get some soup.”

“Okay,” Sang Ning replied with a smile. She carried her tray over with a light step; to her, this place was nothing short of paradise.

After setting down her tray, Sang Ning took a bowl from the sterilization cabinet at the side of the cafeteria and headed to the soup station. She found three types of soup available for lunch: fried tofu soup, mushroom chicken soup, and stewed tofu with Chinese cabbage.

Sang Ning stared at the three soup pots, her eyes widening. She wanted to try all of them!

With that thought, she sprang into action, filling three bowls of soup and carrying them back to the table.

By the time she sat down, her roommates were all staring at her tray, which was piled high like a small mountain.

“Wait, can you even finish all that?” Jiang Xiaoting asked.

“Yeah, and you got three bowls of soup too?” Zhang Yan was equally shocked.

“I can. I’m hungry,” Sang Ning said with a smile before burying her head in her food. To her, every dish in the cafeteria was a divine delicacy. As she ate contentedly, tears nearly welled up in her eyes.

She loved this world so much; compared to the apocalypse, it was simply heaven!
