Vol. I · Chapter 27
Fear and Admiration
Phil swung her arm and gently flexed her fingers.
So light.
Her body felt incredibly light, yet at the same time, power surged within her as if it would overflow from her fingertips at any moment.
It was completely different from when she controlled Monica’s body. Now, her Telekinesis felt as if it only took a single thought to drag everything around her into the palm of her hand.
As for exactly how strong she was now…
Phil thought about it seriously.
Probably about ten Monicas stronger than that incomplete B-Class Mutant in the sewer.

Hmm… she had better not tell her later that she was using Monica as a unit of combat power.
At the same time, Phil noticed another thing—
The System interface, which should have only existed within a game, had actually brazenly appeared in reality.
Had it been half a day ago, Lin Han probably would have suspected that he had worked too much overtime and finally lost his mind.
But as things stood now… when he himself had even turned into a Devil from a game, a mere panel didn’t seem like anything worth being surprised over.
Although he was quite concerned about what that Reality Sync Rate actually was, perhaps this was simply one of the prices of his transformation…
Phil raised her eyes and looked at Veil Weaver, who was struggling to climb out of the crater.
Veil Weaver clutched her chest and stood up unsteadily.
That strike of Telekinesis just now had crushed most of her ribs, and her internal organs had also suffered considerable damage.
But her Mutant body was rapidly healing its wounds.
Gray-black chitin regrew from beneath her ruptured skin like a layer of ugly yet sturdy armor, gradually covering up her glamorous exterior little by little.
“What the hell are you…”
Veil Weaver stared fixedly at Phil, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear, anger, and confusion.
“You’ve said that several times today. Ask a slightly different question, I’m getting bored.”
Phil showed a helpless expression.
“But it looks like you’ll just keep asking if I don’t answer you, so let me think… Just treat me as an ally of justice who happened to be passing by.”
Veil Weaver’s expression twisted for a moment.
“Stop acting mysterious!”
She abruptly spread her arms wide, and countless grayish-black threads rained down from the sky like a torrential storm, hurtling toward Phil to strangle her.
Phil, however, did not dodge.
She simply raised her hand and snapped her fingers lightly.
The next second, the falling black threads stopped in midair.
Upon closer inspection, the black threads were actually being blocked by even finer, denser threads.
Phil curled her fingers slightly inward.
Snap.
Hundreds, even thousands of black threads snapped simultaneously.
Veil Weaver cried out in disbelief:
“How is that possible?!”
“Too fragile,” Phil commented. Her tone sounded like she was reviewing a substandard product.
“I really don’t want to admit that you actually use an ability similar to mine. Let’s just end this battle quickly.”
The next second, the surrounding shattered bricks, snapped steel rebars, and chopped-up railings all levitated under the pull of an invisible force, hovering behind Phil like drops of rain.
Veil Weaver’s pupils constricted.
“Wait!”
“No need for such long last words.”
Phil lightly lowered her fingertips.
The torrential rain crashed down.
Boom boom boom boom boom!
The dense sounds of impact almost merged into a single continuous roar.
The ground where Veil Weaver lay was forcefully smashed inward, sending dust and debris blasting into the air. Even the air itself seemed to be crushed in that instant.
Veil Weaver was smashed into the ground once again.
Cracks in the earth spread outward from her body like a blooming black lotus.
Not far away.
Gu Xinglan held onto the broken railing, staring blankly at this scene.
Her hands were trembling involuntarily.
As a member of the SAVE Special Operations Division, she had received systematic training and participated in quite a few Calamity handling operations. Although she was still just an ordinary LV2 member, she had never considered herself weak.
She had seen monsters, out-of-control Ability Users, and even the world-destroying might of high-tier Calamities from afar.
So she felt that she would never be afraid again.
It should have been like this…
But for the first time, she realized that she was actually unable to intervene due to the sheer intensity of a battle. That was not a battle she could join.
Veil Weaver had pressed her and that orange-gold magical girl so hard they could barely breathe.
Her blade could not cut through the endless black threads. Her advances were sealed off again and again. Even after joining forces with the magical girl, they had still failed to truly injure Veil Weaver.
But what about that silver-haired girl who had suddenly appeared?
She seemed to be playing…
No, it could not even be called playing.
She just casually snapped the Threads, casually broke an arm, and casually smashed the Mutant that had left them helpless into the ground.
She was so overwhelmingly strong that an instinctive realization surfaced in Gu Xinglan’s mind: that Silver-Haired Girl was far more dangerous than Veil Weaver.
As a member of SAVE, she should be immediately confirming the newcomer’s identity; she couldn’t afford to know nothing about a powerful new Transcendent appearing in her jurisdiction. Or, at the very least, she should be stepping forward to assist her in defeating Veil Weaver.
But she couldn’t move.
She was acutely aware that if she rashly charged into that battlefield, she would merely become a useless obstacle blown away by the shockwaves. Therefore, she was afraid.
Gu Xinglan gritted her teeth.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…”
She thought she had grown stronger. She thought she had finally stepped out of the shadow of her past.
She thought she at least had the right to stand on the front lines now.
And yet?
Faced with an enemy that truly defied all metrics, she could still only stand by and watch…
Suddenly, a voice came through her earpiece.
“Xinglan, do you copy?”
Gu Xinglan snapped back to reality.
“Captain?”
“Things are wrapped up for now at the Training Grounds.”
The Captain’s voice carried a distinct pant, accompanied by the sound of crying students in the background.
“The Mutant controlling the Training Grounds and the Ability Class escaped… He was carrying a device that suppresses abilities, and we were severely suppressed. In the end, we had to prioritize saving people and couldn’t make him stay. Fortunately, the students in the Ability Class didn’t suffer any serious injuries.”
The Captain then asked:
“How is the situation on your end? Have you destroyed the Barrier node? And what about that rational Mutant on your side?”
Gu Xinglan looked towards the battlefield.
Veil Weaver seemed to have lost consciousness, lying motionless inside a large crater.
Yet the Silver-Haired Girl still hadn’t let her off and was continuing to smash things onto her. From a distance, she looked exactly like a homicidal maniac.
At first glance, it really was hard to tell who the good guy was…
Gu Xinglan fell silent.
“Xinglan?”
“On my end… a new, unidentified Transcendent has appeared.”
“An enemy?”
“I don’t know, but she’s helping us right now, and she’s…”
Gu Xinglan’s voice was a bit hoarse.
“Very strong…”
On the other side, Lulu’s expression grew increasingly solemn.
It hovered beside Jiang Wanfeng, staring intently at Phil.
“Something’s not right.”
“There is definitely something wrong with this person.”
“Marigold, listen to me.”
Lulu said with a serious face.
“Even though she saved you, you can’t just let your guard down like this. Her aura is very strange. I think she is very likely some unknown high-level Calamity, perhaps even more dangerous than that Mutant.”
Jiang Wanfeng didn’t respond.
Because she was staring fixedly at Phil.
The beautiful appearance, the posture of effortlessly suppressing the enemy with every gesture, the overwhelming presence that made it impossible to look away…
And that ease as if she could handle any enemy with plenty of room to spare.
Jiang Wanfeng felt her heart skip a beat.
So amazing.
Truly amazing!
She had previously imagined what her ideal Magical Girl should look like.
Always beautiful and strong, able to stand at the front no matter what, able to protect those she wanted to protect no matter what danger she faced.
A person like that…
Jiang Wanfeng stared blankly at Phil and murmured:
“So pretty, so amazing…”
Lulu was still earnestly advising beside her.
“Don’t be fooled by her appearance! The prettier the monster, the better they are at tricking little girls like you!”
Jiang Wanfeng finally snapped back to reality and turned her head to look at Lulu.
“Lulu.”
“Mm-hm?”
“I think I kinda understand my classmates who chase after idols now.”
Jiang Wanfeng’s face bore an uncontrollable excitement.
“I think she’s become my oshi.”
Lulu: “…?”
