Vol. I · Chapter 29

Misunderstanding

Su Lingyin pointed her finger at Lin Han, her voice terrifyingly cold.

“Turn around.”

Lin Han immediately turned his back, moving so fast it was as if he had received professional training.

From behind him came the rustling of clothes, along with the girl’s somewhat hurried breathing.

But Lin Han merely lowered his head and stared at a basketball in the corner of the storage room, doing his best to empty his mind and not think about what those sounds meant.

“…You can turn around now.”

Lin Han obediently turned around.

Su Lingyin’s face flushed red bit by bit, while her expression simultaneously grew increasingly fierce.

“Think of your last words.”

“…No, no, no, no matter how you look at it, I was already here to begin with. You were the one who didn’t notice me when you came in, and then…”

Sweating bullets, Lin Han stepped out from beside the shelves and raised his hands to signal his innocence.

Rationally speaking, he wasn’t at fault here at all and had every right to feel justified.

But unfortunately, some things just didn’t follow the rules of logic.

Like the current situation, for instance.

Regardless, he had indeed seen something he shouldn’t have…

“Oh—”

Su Lingyin dragged out the syllable, taking her time to properly put back on the skirt she had taken halfway off, before staring at Lin Han with an unkind expression.

“So, why are you here? If I remember correctly, this place should have been abandoned a long time ago, right?”

Lin Han wanted to say something, but unfortunately, before he could even open his mouth, Su Lingyin continued on her own:

“You’re not a student of Qingchuan Public, and you don’t look like a teacher, yet you are inside our school at a time like this…”

As Su Lingyin spoke, her gaze gradually grew sharper.

Lin Han had no doubt that if he didn’t speak up right then, the other party would transform back into a Magical Girl and eliminate him, treating him as an accomplice of the Mutants.

“Wait! Wait a minute!”

Lin Han pulled his SAVE ID card out of his pocket. For the first time, he was incredibly glad he had brought this thing with him.

“I’m from SAVE, I’m really not some suspicious person!”

“…SAVE?”

“Yes.”

Sure enough, Su Lingyin’s gaze became hesitant, and then she took Lin Han’s ID card and looked it over.

“You really are from SAVE…”

The corner of Su Lingyin’s eye twitched, and she took a deep breath.

“Then what are you doing hiding here?”

“I originally came into the school to look for my Little Sister, but the fighting outside was too fierce. I’m just an ordinary person, so I could only hide to save my own life. Besides, I used to be a student at this school, so I knew about this place.”

Lin Han told a half-truth.

“…”

Su Lingyin didn’t seem quite able to accept this answer, but Lin Han really didn’t look like he was lying.

If peeping toms these days could casually whip out a SAVE staff ID, the cost of being a creep would be way too high.

After a long silence—

“Alright, it seems I misunderstood you.”

Su Lingyin sighed, her face blushing, and apologized to Lin Han.

“It was my fault for not checking if someone was inside. I’m sorry.”

Lin Han didn’t expect the girl who had been so aggressive just a moment ago to be so reasonable, even going so far as to apologize to him.

Moreover, her apology was incredibly sincere, showing signs of a very good upbringing.

However, right after apologizing, Su Lingyin quickly put on a pained, awkward expression.

“So, you… saw everything?”

Lin Han really wanted to ask her what exactly she meant by everything.

But his strong survival instincts and emotional intelligence stopped him from blurting out that retort.

He simply remained silent for a moment, then said with absolute sincerity:

“If I said I didn’t see anything just now, would you believe me?”

Then, Lin Han watched as the girl’s eyes gradually grew hollow and filled with despair.

“So you did see everything…”

Su Lingyin clutched her head, squatted on the ground, and let out an agonized wail.

“How could this happen… Ahhh, because I usually cancel my transformation here, I let my guard down. I never expected someone to actually come, ahhh…”

“And it just had to be someone from SAVE of all people. I’m ruined…”

Lin Han naturally knew that the relationship between SAVE and Magical Girls was quite delicate, so he said:

“I won’t tell SAVE that you’re a Magical Girl.”

He didn’t belong to the faction within SAVE that was wary of or even hostile towards Magical Girls and The Kingdom; if anything, he had a fairly good impression of them.

After all, they also dealt with Calamities, which saved SAVE a lot of trouble.

“Really?”

Lin Han had only said it tentatively, but unexpectedly, the girl’s eyes immediately lit up.

“Are you really not going to report my identity?”

“Yeah… Being wary of The Kingdom and Magical Girls is a matter for SAVE’s higher-ups. It has nothing to do with a low-level employee like me.”

Lin Han was telling the absolute truth.

“Thank goodness… I almost thought I was going to be locked in a basement by SAVE’s Containment and Management Division. You really are a good person.”

The girl seemed genuinely relieved, looking at Lin Han with a deeply touched expression.

How did the legends of the Containment and Management Division spread to the outside world as well? Lin Han’s mouth twitched.

If things continued to develop like this, the name of the Containment and Management Division could soon be used to stop children from crying at night.

Also, did I just receive a “nice guy” card…

However, in the next second, as if Su Lingyin had just thought of something, she suddenly hugged herself and took a vigilant step back.

“Wait.”

“…What is it now?”

“You aren’t thinking of using this secret to blackmail me into doing weird things, are you?”

Lin Han fell silent.

Looking at the girl in front of him who was sincerely apologizing one moment and letting her imagination run wild in strange directions the next, he suddenly felt that you really couldn’t judge a book by its cover.

She clearly looked like the wealthy young lady of some prestigious family, yet her personality was unexpectedly dense.

Who knew what was actually going on inside her head…

“Ahem, I was just making a joke.”

Su Lingyin probably realized she was being a bit embarrassing. She let out a cough, adjusted her collar, tucked her messy long hair behind her ear, and put on a dignified expression once again.

If Lin Han hadn’t already seen her squatting on the ground wailing with her head in her hands, he might have actually been fooled by her current posture.

“Anyway, I can’t owe you a favor. You said earlier that you came here looking for your little sister?”

Su Lingyin said with a serious expression.

“What’s her name? I can help you find her. After all, I’m a student here and I’m more familiar with the school than you are. Plus, it’s still a bit chaotic outside right now, and it’s too dangerous for an ordinary person like you to be running around.”

This statement actually made a lot of sense.

Lin Han glanced at her and said,

“Jiang Wanfeng.”

Su Lingyin froze for a second, and the expression on her face instantly became fascinating.

“…Jiang Wanfeng?”

Lin Han’s heart tightened.

“You know her?”

Su Lingyin didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she suddenly looked down at the work ID in her hand again. After reading it over once more, her gaze gradually changed.

“Lin Han… SAVE…”

She muttered.

“It really is.”

Su Lingyin raised her head and looked at him in disbelief.

“So you’re Xiao Feng’s brother.”

Lin Han was stunned.

“So you know Jiang Wanfeng?”

“My name is Su Lingyin. I’m in the same club as Xiao Feng.”

Su Lingyin added in her mind.

But since Jiang Wanfeng hadn’t told her brother that she was a Magical Girl, naturally, she couldn’t shoot her mouth off either.

“Besides, Xiao Feng is fine. I just spoke with her on the phone, and she’s very safe right now.”

Although Jiang Wanfeng kept rambling on the phone about incomprehensible things like “my oshi,” since she still had that much energy, she should be fine.

Lin Han let out a long breath.

Whether that Magical Girl was Jiang Wanfeng or not, finally getting the news that she was safe allowed Lin Han’s tightly wound heart to relax.

Su Lingyin took in this reaction, narrowing her eyes thoughtfully.

I see.

So this is the brother Xiao Feng always talks about.

He didn’t look like anyone particularly dazzling. In fact, his complexion was a bit poor, and he looked somewhat disheveled.

But…

That obvious expression of relief when he heard Jiang Wanfeng was safe didn’t seem fake at all.

“By the way, since you said you used to be a student at this school, that makes you my senior…”

Su Lingyin suddenly flashed a fox-like smile.

“Senior, let’s exchange contact info.”
