Vol. I · Chapter 28
Accident
Phil stopped.
At the bottom of the pit, Veil Weaver had completely lost her ability to resist, and the grayish-black chitin on her body was no longer regenerating.
Phil raised her head, her perception spreading outward like invisible ripples of water.
Most of the students had already retreated to the Evacuation Area, and the Low-Rank Mutants were being held back by the arriving SAVE members. Because Veil Weaver had lost consciousness, the Barrier had become unstable and was gradually collapsing.
The most troublesome part of the entire incident was over.
In the distance, several figures wearing SAVE combat uniforms were rushing over.
Phil took a glance and quickly withdrew her gaze.
It was time to go.
If she didn’t leave now, once the main SAVE forces arrived, it would be terribly unlucky if they actually mistook her for a high-risk Calamity, arrested her, and locked her up in Basement Level 3.
At least for now, Phil didn’t want to get into a fight with her old colleagues.
Phil looked at Gu Xinglan.
“The rest of the time is just for SAVE to clean up the battlefield.”
Gu Xinglan was taken aback.
She hadn’t expected Phil to suddenly speak to her, or rather, she hadn’t expected Phil to have noticed her at all.
An indescribably complex emotion welled up in her heart.
So she had noticed me? Since she noticed me, yet she didn’t look at me twice from beginning to end…
Was it because she felt it was unnecessary? Or did she think I was too weak, so weak that I wasn’t even worth communicating with?
Gu Xinglan gripped the short sword in her hand tightly, her expression complex…
If Phil knew what Gu Xinglan was thinking, her expression would definitely be quite spectacular, usually unnoticed, did Gu Xinglan actually have so much inner drama?
In fact, Phil hadn’t thought that much at all.
Working in the same place, they often had the chance to bump into each other, and when they did, they never really talked, so just now she subconsciously didn’t speak to her either.
Having finished her instructions, Phil turned around to leave.
“Wait!”
A weak yet urgent voice rang out from behind.
Jiang Wanfeng leaned against a broken stone pillar and stood up. The light of her formal dress was already very dim, looking as if it could dissipate into specks of light at any moment, yet she still tried hard to stand up straight.
Lulu was a bit anxious.
“Marigold! Don’t move around now!”
Jiang Wanfeng ignored it.
She looked at Phil, rarely showing a bit of nervousness.
At this moment, looking at the silver-haired girl, she found that she didn’t even know how to start.
“Um…”
Jiang Wanfeng clenched her fists.
“Could I know your name? I… um, that is, thank you for saving me. I really admire the way you fight… and then…”
Jiang Wanfeng continued to stammer on about something.
But Phil couldn’t listen to anymore of it. She turned around, her scarlet eyes looking at the Magical Girl who looked so much like her own little sister.
Looking into the other girl’s astonishingly bright eyes, she suddenly felt a bit dumbfounded.
…Huh?
Wait a minute, wait a minute…
What is the meaning of this?
Admire? Who?
Me?
She had become this Magical Girl’s idol?
If the other party really was Jiang Wanfeng, then this whole thing was a bit bizarre—
A little sister’s idol is her brother’s transformed female persona.
This relationship could practically be used as a light novel title…
Phil almost failed to maintain her expression, but her powerful self-control kept her from breaking character.
“Phildeia.”
Phil said, striking a pose with her head raised toward the shattering canopy, her expression calm and breezy.
“If the opportunity arises, we will meet again.”
With those words said, her figure darted away into the distance.
Jiang Wanfeng subconsciously took a step forward, looking in the direction where Phil had disappeared, feeling a sense of loss.
She actually wanted to ask if they had ever met before.
Because Jiang Wanfeng kept getting a familiar feeling from this mysterious girl…
Perhaps it was just her imagination.
“That was close, I almost couldn’t hold back from making a snarky comment.”
Phil breathed a sigh of relief.
Actually, saying “we will meet again” just now wasn’t a lie. Although she hadn’t figured out whether the other party was really Jiang Wanfeng this time, there was no way Phil would just ignore this clue.
There would definitely be a great chance to meet again in the future.
Speaking of which, if she really found out that the other party was Jiang Wanfeng, and that her little sister really was a magical girl behind her back, what should she do?
She wouldn’t go so far as to force Jiang Wanfeng to give up being a magical girl on the grounds of it being dangerous; Phil wasn’t that dictatorial of a person.
Even if she discovered her little sister’s secret, Phil would ultimately just feel conflicted for a little while.
This feeling was probably like the mindset of a parent discovering that their child had grown up and was keeping things from them…
Thinking about this, Phil landed in a deserted area.
This was her “secret base” from when she went to school here. Very few people came by; only she and a few friends would occasionally sneak in here to play board games.
This place was originally supposed to be for storing sports equipment, but it had been abandoned. The door lock was broken, and inside were some stacked shelves, a few discarded desks, and torn mats.
After confirming that there was no one around, Phil leaned against the wall, gently exhaled, and then, on the light screen that appeared at her will, found the option to cancel her transformation.
With a flash of white light, the stunningly beautiful girl silently disappeared.
Taking her place was Lin Han, his face pale and his uniform covered in dust.
He steadied himself against the wall, his chest throbbing with a dull pain; the injuries caused by the Mutant sending him flying before his transformation didn’t seem to have completely vanished.
Lin Han looked down at his hands.
The battle just now felt like a dream, but he knew it wasn’t.
“There are more and more problems…”
Right at that moment, footsteps came from outside the warehouse, very light, and clearly a bit unsteady.
Lin Han’s nerves tensed, and he immediately held his breath.
The next second, the warehouse door was pushed open.
A girl stumbled in.
She was still wearing the gorgeous dress interwoven with purple and black, her long hair messy, and even though it was blurred by the halo, the obvious exhaustion on her face was still hard to hide.
A Magical Girl?!
Why would she appear here?
For a moment, Lin Han was so surprised he couldn’t make a sound.
As the girl walked in, she supported herself against the wall and complained in a low voice:
“SAVE came pretty timely this time… If it had been any later, I probably really would have been beaten to death by that muscle Mutant. SAVE enjoys the right not to be flamed this week…”
Purple-red light scattered from her body, and the formal dress turned into petals and vanished.
Appearing before Lin Han’s eyes was a black-haired girl wearing a damaged school uniform.
She looked like a completely different person from the magnificent, queen-like Magical Girl just now, but her appearance was still absolutely stunning, even to the point where she could be considered a beauty on the same level as Jiang Wanfeng.
“Ahhh… my uniform…”
Su Lingyin looked down at her dirtied, torn school uniform with an expression like she was about to drop dead.
“Unforgivable… to think it got ruined like this. Sigh, why does damage to the magical attire reflect on the clothes I’m actually wearing…?”
She pulled a clean Qingchuan Public school uniform out of thin air.
“Good thing I have a spare.”
Wait.
What was going on?
Why could she pull a school uniform out of thin air?
No, that wasn’t the main point right now.
The main point was, why was she changing clothes here?
Lin Han’s mind was instantly thrown into chaos.
Meanwhile, Su Lingyin was so exhausted that she completely failed to notice there was someone else behind the shelves in the corner of the warehouse.
With her back to Lin Han, she unbuttoned her jacket, took off her top to change into the clean one, and then took off her skirt, revealing blue-and-white…
Then, her movements suddenly stopped.
Because she heard an extremely faint gasp coming from behind her.
The air fell dead silent.
Lin Han froze in place.
Su Lingyin slowly turned her head.
“…A peeping tom?”
